How Does Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers are medically-approved, gel-like substances that are injected beneath the surface of the skin to restore fullness, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, and improve contouring. These products are composed of hyaluronic acids (HA) that are already naturally occurring in the skin. These acids draw water to the treatment area, augmenting the skin, and encouraging increased volume.
The Benefits of Dermal Fillers Are Tremendous
- Non-invasive, non-surgical, and affordable
- Safe, naturally-occurring substance
- Immediate results, no recovery period
- Minimal side effects
- Natural looking and lasting results
What to Expect From A Dermal Filler Appointment?
After a consultation with your practitioner to determine which product will offer you the best lift and tissue support, a typical dermal filler appointment will last between 15-30 minutes depending on the number of areas targeted. Using a very fine needle, the filler is artfully injected to restore a more youthful, fuller appearance to the treatment area. Injections should not be painful and the fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, to increase comfort during the procedure. Immediately following treatment, some patients experience slight swelling or redness at the injection site, but this usually resolves within a few minutes and there is no downtime or recovery period. Results are immediate and the treatment area will continue to improve over the following 2-4 weeks.
The results of a dermal filler treatment can last 9-18 months or even longer for some patients, but a maintenance program is recommended to maintain optimal results for plump and lifted skin over the long term. Your skin specialist can help you decide the best maintenance routine for you.
