Who Is It For?
Platelet-rich plasma hair restoration treatments are suitable for men and women experiencing unwanted hair loss. PRP treatments work best on candidates at the beginning stages of hair loss who still have active or partially active hair follicles. People with weak hair follicles and those with areas of alopecia areata (hair loss caused by an immune system response) usually achieve the best results, but even those with advanced hair loss can experience regrowth. These patients might require more treatments and the regrowth may take longer.
How Does It Work?
PRP therapy for hair restoration is a multi-step medical procedure used to stimulate hair growth in the treatment area. A small amount of blood is drawn and is processed in a centrifuge so that only enriched cells or blood platelets remain. This platelet-rich concentration is then injected back into the scalp to trigger hair growth by increasing blood flow and nutrient supply to the hair follicles.
The Benefits
- Safe and effective
- Minimally invasive with little downtime
- Regrowth is gradual and natural
- Treats the root cause of hair loss- the hair follicle
What to Expect
During PRP treatment for hair restoration, your practitioner will draw a small amount of blood to be processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma that is concentrated with your body’s own growth factors. The PRP concentrate is injected back into the scalp (approximately 20 small injections) to invigorate the follicles and stimulate new hair growth. Following your PRP therapy session, you may experience slight bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness, but these symptoms typically resolve within 72 hours. A topical numbing agent can be used to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
