Who Is It For?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is ideal for almost everyone as it makes use of your own plasma and activates your body’s own healing response. If you are over 18 and in good health, not pregnant or breastfeeding, do not have an active infection or a blood clotting disorder, speak with your practitioner about your suitability for PRP therapy and the benefits it can provide. PRP can be used to treat a variety of concerns including:
- Loose and sagging skin
- Rosacea
- Acne scarring
- Sun damage, hyperpigmentation, melasma, dark spots
- Wrinkles and fine lines and other visible signs of aging
How Does It Work?
Your practitioner will draw a small amount of blood that is processed in a centrifuge so that only enriched cells or blood platelets remain. This platelet-concentration is then injected back into the dermis layer of your skin to activate your body’s healing response, thereby stimulating collagen production, revascularization, and tissue repair. These effects will gradually improve skin vitality and texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and facilitate skin rejuvenation.
The Benefits
- Completely safe, natural treatment
- Minimal downtime, accelerated healing
- Minimally invasive
- Increased collagen and elastin production
- Affordable
What to Expect
Your practitioner will draw a small sample of blood to be processed into the platelet-rich plasma solution. Using microneedling techniques or a syringe, the highly concentrated is absorbed into the skin. A topical numbing agent can be used to increase comfort during treatment. There is very little risk of reaction or infection because the plasma is your own blood. You may experience some redness and swelling as a natural healing response after treatment and some patients experience mild irritation and skin flaking in the first week. Most side effects will resolve within a couple of days and a smooth texture and healthy glow will be revealed. The results of a PRP treatment are not permanent and your practitioner can recommend the ideal maintenance schedule for you.
